Dear Friends,

I need your help. I am considering seeking the Democratic nomination to run for Ingham County Clerk. I believe I have the abilities and experience that would make me a good candidate and a good clerk if elected. But this is a big decision, and I need your input.

For the past 6 years, I have served as the City Clerk of Lansing, the largest city in Ingham County. I have developed a long list of accomplishments, and have dedicated myself to making voting easier for Lansing residents. I was named 2011 City Clerk of the Year by the Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks.

In addition to my work as City Clerk, I have a long history of public service and dedication to progressive causes. I was the Executive Director of Michigan Equality, a statewide LGBT rights organization. I have served on the board of the Lansing Branch ACLU, and am a Silver Lifetime Member of the NAACP.

I am experienced at three levels of Michigan government, having served 5 years on the Ingham County Board of Commissioners and worked 12 years in the Michigan Legislature in addition to my service as City Clerk. With your help I can be elected. Through my past campaigns I have proven I am a dedicated campaigner; I will do the work. But I can’t do it alone. Running a countywide campaign will require donations and volunteer hours from lots of people. Will you be one of those people?

I have filed a campaign committee to begin raising funds as I consider this possibility. I need a good showing to prove to the pundits I am a strong candidate. Your contribution of 100, 50 or 25 dollars would go a long way toward making that happen. Can I count on your help?

Sincerely,
